Aptomar has won the Award for Design Excellence for our tactical collaboration management user interface and the SECurus system. We are very honored and proud that our focus on interaction design has been recognized by the norwegian design community, as well as the worlwide users that have chosen our interface as their preferred tactical oil spill managment system.
” We will continue to use interaction design as a tool to keep the user in focus, and to ensure that he gets the right information at the right time, in the context needed to ensure efficiency and quick decision making during all maritime operations and emergency response situations” says aptomar CEO, Lars Solberg.
The jury gave the following reasoning:
Aptomar identified an opportunity to create an interactive system for the bridge of a ship where the crew could monitor, detect and report hazards at sea.
This can be done by providing images and film along with information from the ship’s navigation system.
Innovation within offshore operations
SECurus is a complex system that is impressively easy to use. There is a gyro-stabilised camera on top of the boat. The image remains still even when the ship is moving. There is a touch screen system on the bridge, which can be used to detect oil leaks, search for missing persons or provide help in difficult situations in shipping lanes and ports. The solution’s ability to share information makes coordination from ship and land possible on a large scale.
The main functions of SECurus are clearly and elegantly presented. They are well grouped and prioritised, with clear use of icons and prompts throughout the entire solution. SECurus is an example of integrated and innovative use of design in an engineering-dominated industry. Perhaps this system can set a new standard within offshore operations?
